Texas Roots, Global Reach
Akin was founded more than 75 years ago in Dallas and continues to showcase the core strengths of our elite global platform and focus on exceptional client service. The Texas Lawbook included Akin among a group of “elite” firms in Texas whose names denote “prestige, strength, distinction and even superiority” with the “smartest, most successful” lawyers in the Lone Star State, with clients that seek it out for help with “massive problems or bet-the-company matters.” Law360 also recognized Akin as one of five Texas Powerhouse firms “that showed prowess in delivering for their clients across a wide range of practice groups” and “working on deals both global in scale and those that have a major impact at home in Texas.” Strong corporate, litigation, investment management and financial restructuring practices ensure that the office will thrive throughout the business cycle.
Office Leadership
Akin has a rich history of promoting talent from within. Scott Barnard, the Dallas office partner in charge, joined Akin as a summer associate in 1996 and serves alongside Dallas partner Lacy Lawrence on Akin’s Management Committee, guiding the firm’s operations worldwide. 11 additional attorneys serve in leadership roles, including practice co-heads, FRG chairs and firm committees.
No Sharp Elbows
We are a warm, collaborative and friendly bunch. Doors are open, offices are personal and a sense of humor is a prized asset. People here value a balanced lifestyle that includes time for both meaningful work and outside interests. Summer associate classes form career-long bonds, and alumni eagerly return for events at their Akin “home” year after year.
They are very committed to associate training. There seems to be a different program every week!”
